How To Build A Morning and Nighttime Routine

healthylifestyle routines

Once you know how to build new habits into your current life, then that habit stacking can help you create your morning and nighttime routines. Habits are essential to any type of routine, your fitness routine, your nutrition routine, your morning and nighttime routine. It’s all a rhythm you follow each day to allow your day to go as smoothly as it can. Because of these habits and rhythms, when seasons or phases change and circumstances are problematic you are better able to adapt and adjust and remain strong. Your habits are what keep you going when things get tough. Rest assured, we all have set backs, but you will be able to more easily return to your new normal when you have solid habits in place.

So how do you build a morning and nighttime routine. You figure out what you want to do both morning and evening and then you stack habits. Let’s take a morning routine for example. Here are a list of 3 goals you may want to include in your morning routine:

  1. Workout
  2. Read the Bible
  3. Drink 8oz of water

So, maybe one thing you do every morning is wake-up and go to the bathroom. You first habit stack would be:

  1. After I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom I will put my workout clothes on.

You don’t even have to workout! You just have to get used to putting your workout clothes on! Once this becomes a thing, then you can add in the workout

  1. After I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom I will put on my workout clothes
  2. After I put on my workout clothes I will workout.

Now you’ve stacked habits. Once that becomes your new normal, then you will add on reading the Bible –

  1. After I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom I will put on my workout clothes
  2. After I put on my workout clothes I will workout
  3. After I workout I will read my Bible.

Once that becomes routine for a while, then you will add on the final habit –

  1. After I wake up in the morning and go to the bathroom I will put on my workout clothes
  2. After I put on my workout clothes I will workout
  3. After I workout I will read my Bible.
  4. After I read my Bible I will drink 8oz of water

You can stack these habits according to what you need in your life, but this is just an example of how we’ve created a new morning routine. The same would be for a nightime routine.

The reason why writing out a whole new routine for something and then trying to implement it all at once, doesn’t work, is because your trying to do too many things at once. This helps you do one thing at a time. Is it slower? YES. But is it sustainable? YES.

If you are in need of a new morning routine or nighttime routine, follow the formula above to create that and begin implementing it.
